These layers capture that fleeting, golden moment when the sun dips below the horizon, casting a shimmering trail across the water’s skin. This is more than a replica of a shell; it is an abstract heartbeat—a pulse of the tide translated into pigment and light.

This piece began in the cold, pristine waters of Rakiura (Stewart Island) in 2023. I dived for the original shell myself, it nourished my family with a meal from the sea and in return, its form has become the sacred foundation for my work.
